Alsatian Mural at Haby’s Bakery
Patrice Hoff is a professor of visual arts at the college Jean XXIII in Mulhouse, France. He also paints breathtaking murals on public buildings. He spent several days in February of 2000 painting a beautiful mural on the east wall of Haby’s Alsatian Bakery in Castroville.
The wall served as his canvas as he painted a tribute to the Texan – Alsatian history. The mural includes, among other things, a portrait of Henri Castro (founder of Castroville), the St. Louis Catholic Church, the town of Eguisheim, France, and outlines of Texas and Alsace.
The pictures below offer a glimpse of the mural, but to appreciate it fully, you must see it in person! The next time you are in Castroville drive by Haby’s Bakery and admire the talent of Patrice.
